  • The Alcohol Policy Network On-Line [ Ontario, Canada]  APOLNET is an on-line service dedicated exclusively to alcohol policy issues. It is designed to stimulate informed discussion about various aspects of alcohol policy and profile the efforts and successes of individuals and organizations in the field.

  • Canadian Council on Social Development  A national organization committed to the advancement of social programs and policies to serve children, families and communities through research and analysis of social and economic trends that affect Canadians.

  • Canadian Policy Research Networks  CPRN's mission is to create knowledge and lead public debate on social and economic issues important to the well-being of Canadians. Its goal is to help make Canada a more just, prosperous and caring society. CPRN's trademark is its ability to help policy makers and citizens debate the beliefs, values, frameworks, policies, programs and "ways of doing" that will help the country to cope with social and economic transformation.

  • The Center for Law and Social Policy  CLASP is a national, nonprofit organization founded in 1968, which  conducts research, policy analysis, technical assistance, and advocacy on issues related to economic security for low-income families with children.

  • Center on Budget and Policy Priorities  The Center specializes in research and analysis oriented toward policy decisions that policymakers face at both federal and state levels. The Center examines data and research findings and produces analyses designed to be accessible to public officials, other non-profit organizations, and the media.

  • Children Now  A nonpartisan policy and advocacy organization for children.

  • Children's Defense Fund  A national advocacy organization for poor and disadvantaged children.

  • Congressional Institute  A non-profit organiztion helping to better understand public policy debates and the operations of Congress.

  • Drug Policy Alliance  works to end the war on drugs and promote new drug policies based on common sense, science, public health and human rights.

  • European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction  This site is part of the project 'Co-ordination of working groups of qualitative researchers to analyse different drug use patterns and the implication for public health strategies and prevention', which is being co-ordinated by the National Addiction Centre (NAC), London, UK, for the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction(EMCDDA), Lisbon, Portugal. The site is designed to assist with general networking of qualitative researchers, to encourage dialogue and the sharing of ideas. Particular emphasis is placed on qualitative studies of injecting risk behaviour, new drug trends, and the drug use - crime relationship.

  • Forum for State Health Policy Leadership  Provided by the National Council of State Legislatures. Its mission is to improve decision making and leadership among state legislators with respect to current and emerging critical health policy issues.

  • HandsNet  A national nonprofit organization that promotes information sharing and advocacy on public interest issues such as welfare.

  • Heritage Foundation  Founded in 1973 to formulate and promote conservative public policy.

  • National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors  The National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors,Inc. (NASADAD) is a private, not-for-profit educational, scientific, and informational organization. The Association was originally incorporated in 1971 to serve State Drug Agency Directors, and then in 1978 the membership was expanded to include State Alcoholism Agency Directors. NASADAD's basic purpose is to foster and support the development of effective alcohol and other drug abuse prevention and treatment programs throughout every State.

  • National Center for Children in Poverty   NCPP's mission is to identify and promote strategies that prevent child poverty in the United States and that improve the lives of low-income children and their families.

  • National Center for Policy Analysis  The National Center of Policy Analysis (NCPA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan public policy research organization. Topics include reforms in health care, taxes, Social Security, welfare, criminal justice, education and environmental regulation.

  • National Coalition for the Homeless  A national advocacy network of homeless persons, activists, and service providers. Peruse the fact sheets about the homeless mentally ill.

  • National Governors' Association  NGA is a bipartisan national organization of, by, and for the nations' Governors. NGA was founded in 1908. Through NGA, the Governors identify priority issues of public policy and governance at both the national and state levels.

  • The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty  The mission of The National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty is to advocate effectively to protect the rights of homeless people and to implement solutions to end homelessness in America. To achieve its mission, the Law Center pursues three main strategies: impact litigation, policy advocacy, and public education. To amplify the work of its small staff, the Law Center relies on interns, volunteers, and the pro bono assistance of the private bar.

  • The National Low Income Housing Coalition/LIHIS  Established in 1974, the National Low Income Housing Coalition/LIHIS is the only national organization dedicated solely to ending America's affordable housing crisis. The NLIHC is committed to educating, organizing, and advocating to ensure decent, affordable housing within healthy neighborhoods for everyone. NLIHC provides up-to-date information, formulates policy, and educates the public on housing needs and the strategies for solutions.

  • Pacific Center for Violence Prevention  The Pacific Center for Violence Prevention, a project of the Trauma Foundation, works to prevent youth violence in California. Located at San Francisco General Hospital, the Center serves as the policy headquarters for the Violence Prevention Initiative funded by The California Wellness Foundation.

  • Policy.Net  A project of Issue Dynamics. It is an excellent resource for political campaigns and alerts inside the beltway.

  • Republican National Committee  The official site of the Republican Party.

  • Stateline.org  This site is operated by the Pew Center on the States, a research organization administered by the University of Richmond, and funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts.  Stateline.org was founded in order to help journalists, policy makers and engaged citizens become better informed about innovative public policies.

  • Support Coalition  An international alliance of groups concerned about human rights and alternatives of psychiatric survivors.

  • THOMAS  Available from THOMAS are the three major policy areas consisting of U.S. Federal Legislation, the Congressional Record, and Congressional Committee Information. Acting under the directive of 104th Congress to make Federal legislative information freely available to the Internet public, a Library of Congress team brought the THOMAS World Wide Web system online in January 1995, at the inception of the 104th Congress.

  • The Urban Institute  The Urban Institute investigates social and economic problems confronting the United States and analyzes efforts to solve these problems. The Institute seeks to increase Americans' awareness of important public choices and improve the formulation and implementation of government decisions. Much of its research is available to the public.

  • U.S. House of Representatives  Conduct an online search for bill information and directly access web pages of House members.

  • U.S. Senate  Track and research bills, nominations, voting records, committee membership, hearing schedules, and lobbying disclosure information.

  • U.S. Supreme Court  Provides detailed case information about Supreme Court decisions.

  • Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education  A regional agency established in 1953 that facilitates resource sharing and cost-effective services. Check out their Mental Health Program.

The Missouri Institute of Mental Health provides the Policy Information Exchange (PIE) as a service to the mental health community.  The Institute places documents into the PIE database that are examples of sound policy research, have high policy relevance, or have been judged to be of special interest to the mental health community. The Institute does not necessarily agree with the policy positions stated in documents in the PIE database.
