State Hospital Historical Records
Patients were first admitted to St. Louis State Hospital in April, 1869. The Library has the original patient record books from that date through 1911. The books are an interesting source for researchers looking into patient characteristics of that time. For extensive study, the library also has the records on microfilm. Researchers wishing to review these archival records need prior approval from the Missouri Department of Mental Health. For further assistance contact the MIMH Librarian at johnsonm@mimh.edu
The historical collection also includes photographs, dating from 1870, of the hospital setting. These are available for general viewing.
